‘Frightening Viruses’ is a richly illustrated book that shows the animals that are trapped between a deadly virus and the panicked reactions of humans.
An infectious disease that has jumped from an animal to a human is called a zoonosis, the most recent example being Covid-19. However before the corona pandemic had a dramatic impact on our lives, our history is filled with deadly encounters with zoonoses. Caught in the crossfire are animals that are either the unknowing reservoirs or the unlucky stepping stones for the virus. Often forgotten or ignored, this book will emphasize their stories.
Each chapter addresses a different virus and is created in a different medium. Visualized in a detailed and imaginative way, each chapter will exude their own unique atmosphere. Informing the reader in a creative and entertaining manner.
