How to repurpose a church into a community centre with daytime activities, without neglecting the history of the building.

In the Netherlands, 1 out of 5 churches are no longer a church. They’re repurposing the buildings to offices, library’s, care centres but mostly for residential purposes, in a way that all the historical elements are demolished. If we don’t stop this now, we don’t have any churches left 50 years from now.
On the other hand, it’s a fact that we really need the empty space from a church that is out of service. That is why I created this strategy with some rules about repurposing a church. This strategy is all about how we can reuse the church without neglecting the history of the building. This way we can use the space without taking away the history of the church. After a lot of research into multiple functions, similar projects and materials, I had enough information to create the strategy and design for the project (Y)our church.
