When a princes hears about a mysterious knight who has been killing women, she desides to seek him out herself.

The Dutch medieval ballad ‘Heer Haleweijn’ tells the story about a young woman outsmarting a serial killer knight. It dates back as far as the 13th century.

In this project, I’ve combined my love for illustrating with watercolours and pens, old folktales. Especially those darker and eerie ones. My goal is to spread awareness about the existence of older ballads, myths, fairytales that feature a female lead who doesn’t need a knight or prince to save her.
