Equal but not the same
The installation Equal but not the same explores the female body, the complexity of the female experience and the insecurities and pain that can result from medical situations. In addition to close-ups, the installation includes texts highlighting the painful experiences of women who have been under-diagnosed or faced medical errors. It is unacceptable that women are still not getting proper care and treatment because medical science does not know enough about the female body. There needs to be more action to increase medical knowledge about women and ensure that women are no longer underrepresented in medical research. Equal but not the same places the female body at the centre and depicts the diversity of women coming together and symbolising the broader female experience. Each woman retains her own unique identity, but together they form a powerful whole. The fragmentary presentation poignantly reflects the limited understanding we have of the female body.
