A line of 128 pinned preserved butterflies embodies my work, slowly spreading their wings as you walk past them. In this line, I investigate symbolism, fragility, the temporary nature of everything and how we as humans relate to life in nature.

Butterflies have a short lifespan and are extremely fragile, they symbolize change and growth. I pin butterflies into position, with this form of taxidermy, I want to raise questions about who is in charge and how we treat other species, even after their death. By preserving their form for our enjoyment, we refuse their passing on. At the same time they show us the gracefulness of nature and encourage the preservation of our fragile ecosystem.

In this line, I investigate symbolism, fragility, the temporary nature of everything and how we as humans relate to life in nature. When you walk past the butterflies, they will vibrate slightly and move along with you, which almost makes them come to life again. We become spectators of their preserved and fragile life, but should we interfere with other life?
