Pleun Arts, an illustrator and storyteller who combines illustrations and text in her book 'van Witbrood to Gaarkeuken'. She documented the stories of her ancestors, who were living close to the German border, during the Second World War.

When the Germans enter the small village ‘t Ven in the Netherlands in May 1940, the lives of all people change. The inhabitants of the North Limburg villages Ottersum, ‘t Ven and Zelderheide are no exception to this.

In the book ‘van Witbrood tot Gaarkeuken’, the stories of these inhabitants are told through a combination of illustrations, text and photos.
This book contains several stories that show how the lives of the inhabitants became increasingly difficult due to the oppression of the Germans.
