Glijdende Genders
What would happen if human society, like snails, let go of our traditional gender roles?
In ‘Glijdende Genders’ (Gliding Genders), Amy Mom projects our society’s binary gender roles onto snails, to whom these roles do not apply. Snails are hermaphrodites, which means they have both male and female reproductive organs.
With the help of slimy, intersex snails, familiar objects, and audio fragments, the absurdity of the expectations surrounding these perceived gender roles becomes clear. Amy playfully shows us that there is much to learn from the natural world, especially regarding our social interactions.
